30th Anniversary Family Portrait

28th June 2015

Mandarin Oriental & KLCC Park

This was not just a family portrait session, it was a session to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wan’s 30th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Wan started a tradition where they would take family portraits each time they hit the 10th year mark; for most of them, this would be their third time, but for some, their first.

When all eight of them showed up for the shoot, I knew that all I had to do was have my camera ready and start shooting. It was obvious that this was not their first time. I loved the fact that they were more than prepared for the shoot. The ladies were all dressed in white while the boys in sharp suits; they complemented each other very well. Directing at my end was kept to a minimum as they comfortably positioned themselves in front of the camera. The session was filled with much chatter and laughter. The boys definitely inherited their old man’s wit and charm and their mom’s kindness.

One could easily feel the love and respect they have for each other just by watching them interact. It seems to me that what Mr. and Mrs. Wan shared played a big role in nurturing and bringing up these three wonderful boys.

I asked them what their secret to a long and lasting marriage was, Mr. Wan humbly replied, "we are still learning." Perhaps they will figure it out in 10 years' time.
