Semabok Dalam, Malacca

As I grow older, I learn to appreciate family gatherings more. It is increasingly difficult to get everybody together nowadays. The first day of Chinese New Year is one of those days, no matter what, everyone tries their very best to make it back to Malacca. The morning begins with new year greetings and ang pow collecting for the young ones, including myself! Then lunch, this year my mom decided to bring her kitchen to grandma's house and treated everyone to a feast. After lunch, we all convened at the garden for more ang pows from the Money Tree. The Money Tree works very much like a Christmas tree - instead of presents, we get cash.

This year, the organisers added a little twist and left little notes with tasks in the ang pows. We had to work harder this year to earn our cash from the Money Tree. One of the tasks was to give grandma a kiss and a big hug. Now, we're quite the Asian family and do not necessarily express our feelings or emotions that well. So it was very heartwarming to see one of my uncles give grandma a kiss and big hug. And I'm glad I managed to capture that precious moment and many more.
